I understand therapy to be a process in which you and I share a common goal, and that goal is for you to achieve a greater sense of well-being. My role is to accompany you on your journey, providing you with support and offering you different points of view. This will help you achieve larger perspectives on the situations that trouble you, and enable you to find solutions that work for you.
My approach to therapy is integrative, which means I don’t believe there is one ‘best’ type of therapy, but you can benefit from a combination of different therapy styles. In our work together, I’ll draw upon a range of methods and ideas from different therapeutic approaches, adapting them to what I think will work best for you. Our work will be collaborative, and ultimately you will decide the areas we explore and the pace at which we move.
I stay open to different ways of working and welcome you to bring anything you feel might be useful to explore. This could include experiences from your past, or concerns about the present or future. This might also include any thoughts or feelings that arise in the moment, as well as dreams, journals or anything else you would like to share.
Having experience of being a client in my own therapy, I understand that starting counselling can feel daunting, and it may take time to find someone that feels right for you. I welcome you to contact me via email or phone and we can talk through any questions you might have.
After our initial contact, we may decide to meet for an introductory session. This is a chance for you to discuss what has prompted you to seek therapy, along with any goals and questions you have about the therapy process. Importantly, you will experience what I’m like and how I work. After this session, if you feel like counselling isn’t for you, then you are under no obligation to return.
If we do agree to work together, we would arrange to meet at the same time each week for 50 minutes. While this consistency is helpful in providing a stable setting to explore deeper-lying issues, I am flexible with my availability and understand that we all have busy lives.
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
